Illness and Communicable Disease Policy
In accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements and Every Child Matters outcomes, Tiny Town Nurseries have a strict exclusion policy for illness and communicable diseases. We follow Health Protection Authority guidelines to ensure the safety of children, staff and visitors.
If a child is unwell at nursery, parents/carers will be contacted and asked to collect them.
Any child, who has a raised temperature over 39°C, will have their parent/carer contacted and asked if one dose of Calpol can be administered. Written permission for this is part of the registration document and a medicine form will be completed for the parent to sign on collection.
The parent will be asked to collect their child as soon as possible. Other methods will be used to try and reduce the temperature and if staff feel the child’s welfare is at risk they will call an ambulance.
Children who are unwell must remain at home until symptoms have subsided in accordance with the HPA guidelines.
All rashes will be glass tested in accordance with Meningitis guidelines.
If a child has been seen by a medical professional and been deemed as fit to return before the recommended exclusion period for the illness, the nursery must be informed in writing.
All parents will be given a copy of the nursery policy and the HPA guidance on registration and the posters will be displayed in the nursery.
The setting must fully understand the needs of any child with a long term medical condition and the appropriate care plan must be put in place in agreement with parents and other health professionals.
